i've been wearing my last pair of contact lens' for almost six weeks now. they're only supposed to be used for a month, then thrown away, but since i'm a master procrastinator, i didn't go to reorder them until last night.

i get my contacts from costco 'cos they're really cheap there. i was totally expecting to go in, pay for another three month supply, and walk out with two new boxes of contacts, but, unfortunately, they don't stock my prescription, so now i have to wait another week before they come in. and then once they come in, i have to make *another* trip to the costco. damn. i just hope my eyes don't develop some exotic infection caused by leaving them in too long. (and i wonder why i have so many problems with my eyes.)

i leave the optical department disappointed, but decide that since i'm already there, i mind as well look around and see if there's anything else worth buying. i figured i could probably find a couple more christmas gifts and maybe some supplies for the house.

i bought a football, a couple of bath towels, a pair of brand new pillows (which made my sleep last night ever so comfortable), a 48 count box of assorted cookies for the office, coffee for the office, an assorted bag of 50 christmas bows and a gift sized box of chocolate (in case i need a present for someone in a jiffy)...

so i get to the checkout counter, and you know how there are times when you meet a stranger and you know you'll probably never ever see that person again, and you feel it's absolutely alright to tell bald-faced lies? well, the cashier told me that i looked like a musician and asked if i was in a band. (note: no one has *ever* said i looked like a musician before). and so, knowing i could lie and not get into any trouble or be found out, i said, 'sure, i'm in a band. we haven't played any gigs yet...we're just 'jamming''...and he asks if we need a drummer and i say, 'sure, let me have your number and i'll give you a call when we're ready'...heh. and you know what? i *know* enough people who are musicians or are in bands and i should be, too. now if only i could sing and/or play something. ahhh, details.

so if anyone asks, i'm the singer/guitarist of a 'band' called 'the lazy day society'. hahaha.

You sound like me. I had the monthlies and I would wait like 6 or 7 weeks just to get more. AND my prescription is so bad they always had to order me some more because they weren't in stock. I switched to the Daily ones though because I kept getting eye infections. Well, it was pretty obvious why. Ihate wearing my glasses, so, contacts are the only option.

"Wow. Very interesting, Rachel ... Thanks for sharing your eye info with me"

Hey there...just reading random journals...

My eye doctor said that there is really no difference in the contacts that you change weekly, monthly, every 3 months, etc. I have a tendancy to rip mine almost once a month, so to make it cheaper for me, he gave me 6 pairs of weeklies, and said to change them whenever they rip. Usually lasts about a year, depending how malicious I am when I take them out. :-)

I had to get the daily ones because I just kept getting infections. My eyes like to turn red for random reasons. This way, I keep my eyes/contacts fairly sterile. Wow. We're all such interesting people. Conversations about contacts. Woo-hoo. Anyway, Mr. Polyester, don't go emo. That's downright scary. But you can listen to the Get Up Kids. That's it - it's the only emo-esque stuff I'll listen to.

i think i've got really bionic eyes 'cos i can just leave my contacts in for weeks at a time and my eyes won't get sore or irritated and the contacts don't dry up 'cos i think i've got naturally watery eyes. (i was just thinking how funny it would be if someday some girl said, 'michael, i'm really in love with those naturally watery eyes of yours. haha)...

and, yeah, i won't go emo. the lazy day society isn't necessarily an 'emo' band name. i was thinking more along the lines of a twee pop band in the same vein as the apples in stereo.

and, hmmm. i just don't get the get up kids. i mean, is it just me?

What the hell is twee pop band, or who are the apples in stereo? Am I out of the loop here? Maybe I can brush up my guitar and I"ll join you.

BTW - The Get Up Kids are wonderful. Just listen to the lyrics

um...you don't know the apples in stereo?! or any of the elephant six collective based out of athens georgia?! oh no!

twee = anything poppy and bouncy and super sugary sweet and exceptionally well crafted and melodic. lots of fey vocals (and la la la's and ba ba ba's and handclaps) and an unabashed love of the beach boys and beatles. twee music sounds completely out of place in the year 2000, but that's why i love it. it's music from a time when music was good. but that's just my definition.

holllllllllllidayyyyyyyyyyyy....argh.

So - would you put Sloan in the twee category? I'm just trying to get a feel for this definition. I mean, I think I got it, but I've just never heard of it.

no...see, sloan are more power pop than twee. oh, man, sloan are so fucking great! i suppose it's hard to define the difference, but twee isn't as in your face as sloan. and twee bands don't rock nearly as hard. but, between the bridges might qualify as a pseudo-twee album. heh.

oh, and have you heard the new album (pretty together) ?

a quick guide to sloan albums:

smeared: sloan's attempt at being 'shoegazerish' or how their failed at trying to be my bloody valentine...

twice removed: complete departure from smeared. much more straight up pop-rock. the best album weezer never made.

one chord to another: another departure. the familiar sounds are there, but they go completely into beatles mode and come out with their own little version of revolver.

navy blues: after another stylistic change, they rock harder than ever before. it's their ac/dc phase.

between the bridges: they finally achieve what i hope will remain the 'classic' sloan sound. a wonderful balance of wonderfully melodic pop songs balanced out with some harder rockin' songs.
my favorite sloan album.

so, there you go. =)
